Television presenter organises disability friendly gigs

Television presenter Jameela Jamil has started a members club that will host a variety of disability friendly gigs. So far, chart-topping bands such as Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson have been confirmed to headline shows, which those with disabilities will now have an opportunity to watch perform. Why Not People? aims to provide the same social experiences that the majority take for granted every day, including those who rely on wheelchairs and stairlifts solutions.

The company released figures to highlight the disadvantages that disabled people encounter, with 77 per cent of young people with disabilities finding that when booking tickets for live events, they are not catered for as well as non-disabled people. One in two disabled people have also missed out on buying tickets, or had a stressful experience when booking them, which, considering there are 11.8 million people living with disabilities in the UK, is a very high proportion.

Enabling everyone to experience live music

In an article by NME magazine, Jameela Jamil stated, “I simply can't continue living in a world that excludes such a large part of society. Some of my best friends are those people. Their disabilities should not prohibit them from having the same social experience as those of us who do not face the same challenges.”

Why Not People? will be introducing a number of new technologies, including SubPac, which is a piece of equipment a person can wear in order to experience low audio frequencies transferred onto the body. As well as being able to purchase tickets for disabled friendly gigs that cater for both those with physical and sensory impairments, members will become part of a community, with exclusive offers and discounts shared amongst them regularly.

Celebrity ambassadors of the members club include comedian Alex Brooker, Paralympic athlete Hannah Cockroft, and TV presenter Ade Adepitan.
