Regularly checking your stairlift will allow you to recognise whether it needs an servicing, with many problems easily corrected with a bit of maintenance or a call-out from a stairlift expert. For example, if there is a problem with the seat, it could be due to broken springs in the chair. In a situation like this, an engineer should be called out to address the issue, which is covered by your two-year warranty, if it is still applicable. Handicare engineers are highly skilled and strive to fix your problem efficiently, making as little impact on your day and your home as possible.

Once you have a Age UK Trading stairlift, provided by Handicare, you can arrange a service by contacting the team via our stairlifts service page.

Many problems with your stairlift can be avoided with a bit of general upkeep. Tasks such as keeping the tracks dust-free will prevent obstructions from occurring, ensuring a smooth journey. We also recommend servicing your stairlift once a year to ensure it is in good working order and to prevent future problems. Read more about stairlift servicing and support.

Your stairlift batteries typically last between three and five years, although this duration may vary depending on the frequency of use and whether the batteries are left without power for extended periods. The batteries use very little power per trip, so are inexpensive to run, with a replacement battering costing around £50. Learn more about how stairlifts work.

In the event of a power cut, your stairlift will continue to operate for up to seven return trips, allowing you to access all floors in your home. With this in mind, the power supply to your stairlift must be left on at all times to ensure it has sufficient power. If the batteries are left to drain completely, they may need to be replaced.
