Families missing out on funding for elderly

According to a recent article, hundreds of families from Bolton could be missing out on funding for nursing care for elderly relatives at home. The funding is allocated by the NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and is decided by assessments on healthcare needs, including mobility, and could provide the funds for families to afford at home care to work alongside mobility aids for an elderly relative to provide a better quality of life.

Recent statistics have found that more people in the UK are living longer than ever before. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has found that in 2012 there were 13,350 people in the UK who had reached the age of a hundred. As a result of improved healthcare and developments in medicine, more people are living to an older age than they used to, meaning that more are in need of mobility aids and other elderly-related assistance to lead a full and independent life as their mobility decreases.


Door-to-door bus service aids mobility restricted

A door-to-door bus service in Ribble Valley, Lancashire is able to continue serving mobility-restricted residents in the area thanks to a new set of wheels provided by a donation from the borough council. The service, dubbed the Little Green Bus, has proved a life line for elderly and vulnerable residents in the area as it helps them gain more independence in their daily lives.
